Tobacco Shoe Swap – Northwestern FACT

The Northwestern FACT group organized a Tobacco Shoe Swap FACTivism. They had the opportunity to open conversations with these groups and talk about what it’s like to “walk in someone else’s shoes”.

The Tobacco Shoe Swap FACTivism focuses on educating participants about health disparities. This FACTivism begins with a presentation to give participants information about the disparities that make some people more likely to use tobacco. After this presentation, participants draw a card which describes someone else’s life. This is where the shoe swap comes in, now they get to “walk in someone else's shoes”. With the information on their person on their card, they will take steps either forward or backward based on real tobacco facts. This FACTivism is a great opportunity to allow youth and participants to see the real truths, that corporate tobacco companies target vulnerable and marginalized communities.

The FACT movement is a youth-driven movement of Wisconsin youth spreading the truth about tobacco, including vapes. FACT aims to prevent and stop youth tobacco use through education. FACT is funded by the Commerical Tobacco Prevention & Treatment Program, organized by local tobacco alliances, and managed by the American Lung Association.
