Cigarette Butt Cleanup – El Bethel FACT

Youth in the El Bethel FACT group took the initiative to organize a Cigarette Butt Cleanup in their community. During this cleanup they noted that not only were they finding cigarette butts, but also vape devices and other pollution.

Cigarette Butt Cleanup is a great showcase of FACT youth tackling the environmental impacts of tobacco and vape use. Cigarette butts are the most littered item in the United States. This FACTivism encourages youth to get together and help their community, while collecting evidence to showcase that there’s a problem. This hands-on activity highlights the extensive litter and pollution that comes from tobacco and vape products. By visibly addressing the issue of cigarette butt litter, FACT groups like El Bethel inspire others to reconsider their tobacco habits and advocate for cleaner public spaces.

The FACT movement is a youth-driven movement of Wisconsin youth spreading the truth about tobacco, including vapes. FACT aims to prevent and stop youth tobacco use through education. FACT is funded by the Commerical Tobacco Prevention & Treatment Program, organized by local tobacco alliances, and managed by the American Lung Association.
