Lincoln High School FACT Discuss the Dangers of Vaping on Mid-Day Magazine

In a special edition of Mid-Day Magazine, host James J. Malouf was joined by a passionate group of Lincoln High School FACT members. Mykul Reyes, Allison Stintz, Vanessa Kohlman, and Isabel Martinez, alongside their FACT advisor Michelle Perry, took to the airwaves to raise awareness about the risks of vaping and the importance of educating both youth and parents about what goes into their bodies when they use these products.

During the show, the group shared valuable insights into the evolution of tobacco products, particularly how the social norm of nicotine products has changed. Vaping has been promoted as a more acceptable and even "cool" alternative to combustible cigarettes. The group discussed how this transition has contributed to a rise in vaping among young people, despite the harmful health effects that many may not fully understand. The group also touched on the pressures teens face, both from their peers and the media, when it comes to vaping. They highlighted the importance of providing opportunities for people to learn, and talk with others, not at them.

When asked why they got involved with FACT, the students explained how joining the group has given them a platform to learn and also make a tangible impact. Further into this discussion the group talked about the stress of vaping. "Most people think that kids vape just to be cool or cause of peer pressure, but actually the majority of them vape to cope with stress and anxiety," said Allison Stintz. She continued, "People just need to realize that that's like the worst thing you can possibly do, it just makes all your anxiety and depression way worse, and it affects your mental health way more than you'd ever think it could."
